Frequently Asked Questions

Windshield Replacement and Repair
Does it matter how damaged my windshield is?

Some rock chips on windshields can be repaired rather than replacing the entire windshield. Repair involves injecting a clear resin into the chip to repair the damaged area. While most windshield chips smaller than a quarter can be repaired at Olsen’s Auto Glass, a certified technician should inspect the damage to determine if the chip is repairable. Repairs are typically not recommended if the chip is in the driver’s critical viewing area. Automobile insurance companies may waive the deductible and pay for the repair.

What’s the difference between my windshield and the other glass in my car?

Safety glass is designed and manufactured for optimum safety in the event of a crash. Windshields are made of laminated glass. Laminated safety glass is made from two layers of glass with vinyl laminated in the middle so it will stay intact in the event of an accident. The back and side glass in your vehicle is tempered glass. Tempered glass is heat-treated glass designed to be 7 times stronger than regular glass. If it breaks, it shatters into ¼ inch. Pieces. Some newer cars use laminated side and back windows for sound insulation and security.

What is OEM GLASS?

OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. This means the glass is made directly from the auto makers specifications, not just copied. OEM glass will fit and have the same appearance and function of the original glass in your vehicle.

Can I have my windshield replaced at my home or office?

We prefer to replace all windshields at our shop to ensure the best conditions for the job. Weather and humidity make it impossible to achieve a proper seal during 6 to 8 months of the year in Eugene. If the temperature is below 50 degrees or if the humidity is high, the adhesives won't adhere back to the automakers specifications. Also most mobile van services only use one person, making it almost impossible to set the glass correctly for a lot of vehicles. Instead, take advantage of our free ride back to your home of office!

What kind of warranty is offered?

Olsen’s Auto Glass offers a lifetime warranty for all workmanship. The glass manufacturer offers a one year warranty for defects in the glass.

Why should a headlight be restored?

The restoration eliminates costly replacements, enhances the appearance, and increases resale value of any vehicle.

Will the headlight restoration improve visibility while driving at night?

Yes, driving with cloudy or discolored lenses is a safety hazard and restoring your lenses will allow your lights to shine brighter and farther.
